Washington breaks up with Josh Norman – Pro
New Washington coach Ron Rivera has been surrounding himself with old friends from his Panthers days.
Norman was in the doghouse last year, and didn 8217;t play down the stretch. Some might have thought having his old coach in town would help, but his $12 million salary was deemed more than they wanted to pay for the former Pro Bowler.
Norman is not worth 12 mil but its gotta suck for him.
He left Carolina to get paid and then the guy that wouldn 8217;t pay him becomes the coach of his new team. And 8230;won 8217;t pay him.
Good 8230;.Bye Felicia
Adios. When fans complained that Norman couldn 8217;t cover a blade of grass, I 8217;d tap the breaks and say whoah, he 8217;s still a top-30 CB. He 8217;s just paid like a top-3 CB so it 8217;s disappointing that he 8217;s not performing to that level, but that doesn 8217;t mean he 8217;s bad.
And then he proved me wrong.
Never liked him. All mouth.
Talk about stealing money for the past few years! Call him Dillinger!
I wish things would have worked out better for Norman and the Skins but he 8217;s just not worth the money. I know all the chatter is negative about him but I do believe he gave us his all. Just wasn 8217;t talented enough. HTTR
Thank the Lord!!!!
does he have ANY game left in the tank?
That 8217;s a good sign for Washington. That means Rivera is not sentimental when it comes to building a competitive roster.
He and Dez should go do battle in the XFL.
I 8217;m not a Washington fan or a Norman fan. However I am a fan of facts.
Long time coming.
Good move. We starting off good already
They finally admitted he was over-paid and overrated!That 8217;s first step in recovery, isn 8217;t it? Admitting you have a problem?Now, they need to figure out how to release Snyder.
Proving once again that Washington is where high priced Free Agents go to get paid and fade away 8230;
Not bad $$ or career for a 5th round pick! He 8217;s now 32 years old and not worth the money.
He was on UK TV for the Superbowl coverage, I thought he was funny but at points I was wondering is he going to cross the line here? On the field I think age caught up with him and it 8217;s hard to see where he goes from here.
Say adios 8211; and quickly get rid of unwanted fat.
The indelible image I have in my mind of Norman 8217;s time with the Redskins is him with his palms up looking at a teammate after his man beat him for a long touchdown. That happened a lot.
Maybe the most overrated/paid CB in NFL history. Only has 14 INts and 1 Pro Bowl nod in 9 years. Congrats on getting paid though
Never had the speed or quickness to play 1v1, but was solid and physical in zone coverage. Too bad the Redskins brass never let them design around their talent. The last 5 years would have been a lot better with a 4-3 and zone coverage. But hey, they got Chase Young so 8230;
Washington already had a league-leading $93M in cap space, which was $9M more than anyone else, even before this cut. This takes it up to $105M, and Jordan Reed and Paul Richardson cuts are likely still to come. This team can be reshaped fast 8212; with some good decision making.
Norman provided very little bang for the buck. Overrated when considering salary versus impact.
Norman was a bad fit for the Redskins from the very beginning. He 8217;s a great cover-2 (ZONE) CB. To be successful he needs quality safeties backing him up. He never had that in Washington.
Many times he had the under coverage, the receiver went deep through his zone and the safety failed to pick him up. Clueless fans screamed 8220;Norman got beat again! 8221;. Other times the coaches 8220;matched 8221; Norman to a speedy WR and he did get beat. But is that Norman 8217;s fault? Not entirely since it is widely known that Norman isn 8217;t a fast CB. The team paid a lot for him and then misused him. That is typical of the square peg in round hole defensive coaching the Redskins have had for a decade. Too many Redskins defenders have been set up to fail by poor coaching.
notice how most corners that get their big pay day are 1 year wonders? Revis and sherman are the exceptions.
this dude has been focusing on his analyst career for the last 5 years. football was secondary.
just another blunder by Snyder, he can 8217;t seem to understand that when a team lets a big name go there has to be a reason so why dole out millions to has been. put your money into a decent scout to find diamonds not has beens.
Wow I thought Rivera going there would actually improve his play because he’s definitely a scheme corner, not a shutdown. I wonder if McDermott will spin the tires on him because McDermott was the defensive coordinator that year Norman exploded
He left Carolina to get paid and then the guy that wouldn’t pay him becomes the coach of his new team. And…won’t pay him.
8212; 8212; 8212; 8212; 8212; 8212; 8212; 8212; 8212; 8212; 8211;
Rivera won 8217;t pay him because he can no longer play at a high level. Guaranteed whoever ended up coaching the Redskins this year would have released Norman (and Reed).
I 8217;d say this was Washington 8217;s worst free agent signing but their laundry list of bad signings is so long it is actually debatable. At least they 8217;re consistent.
Another dart thrown by the Washington team the missed the dartboard.
This could be a mistake. He 8217;s still a top 125 CB.
